A Final Look – The Day the Gorbals Flats Came Down
Yesterday, the skyline of the Gorbals changed forever - Brian Anderson blog
I stood with locals, old and young, shoulder to shoulder behind fences and on street corners, watching two of the last tower blocks on Caledonia Road come crashing down. The sun was out, but there was a strange stillness in the air — as if the city knew something was ending.
The blasts were quick. A moment later, clouds of dust rolled across the grass, and it was over. The towers were gone.
These flats weren’t just concrete and steel — they were home. For decades, families were raised there. Lives unfolded inside those walls.
Now, all that’s left are photos, memories, and silence where the buildings once stood.
It was a powerful moment. Not just a demolition — but the end of an era.
