Today marked a significant moment in the transformation of northern Glasgow's skyline as three iconic 1960s tower blocks on Wyndford Road were swiftly brought down by demolition experts. These 26-storey structures, symbols of a bygone era, were demolished using controlled explosions to pave the way for nearly 400 new homes. Prior to the operation, an exclusion zone was established, and a temporary evacuation center was set up, ensuring the safety of residents from 240 nearby properties who were asked to leave. This demolition is part of a larger redevelopment plan, which will also involve the careful dismantling of a fourth high-rise block using a piece-by-piece technique. The Wyndford estate, originally constructed in the Maryhill area on the site of the old Glasgow City Barracks, witnessed its high-rise legacy come to an end today, marking a new chapter in the evolution of this vibrant community.
